Alexander McQueen 1969-2010, who died earlier this month (11 Feb) has been a shock to all. He was born to a taxi driver and and social science teacher in London. He grew up in a council flat, governmental housing. His family was poor and couldn't afford to buy dresses for his 3 sisters, so he started making dresses for his sisters at a young age and later decided to become a fashion designer. At first he applied for a job at London's prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Designs as a pattern cutter tutor, and because of the strength of his portfolio, he was persuaded by the head of master courses to enroll in the course as a student. He is famous for his unconventional designs, shock tactics and impleccable tailoring, earning him the title "The Rebellious Boy" in the fashion industry. McQueen's "Bumpsters" started the trend in low rise jeans. He has been credited with bringing drama and extravagance to the catwalk and often shocked and surprised audiences. Some of his shocking and unconventional collections and fashions shows include "Highland Rape", "Human Chess Game", "Shipwreck", a recreation of a shipwreck, "Widows of Culloden", featured a life-sized hologram of supermodel Kate Moss dressed in yards of rippling fabric. He died by hanging himself, 9 days after his mother's death. Although he's gone but the inspirations he had given the world will be eternal.
